A new image from season two of Netflix Jessica Jones has been released, and it reveals that Kilgrave is still causing havoc for our girl.

Putting it out there, season one of Jessica Jones is the best Marvel series on Netflix. Fight me! A huge part of how successful and effective the show was can be attributed to David Tennant’s performance of the twisted villain, Kilgrave, and his relationship with Jessica (Krysten Ritter).

So when season two was announced, although it was massively exciting, it was also kind of bittersweet to know that Tennant’s presence as Kilgrave would be absent due to the fate the character suffered at the end of the first season. It seems we needn’t have worried though, as the villain will most definitely be back.

Admittedly we’re unsure in exactly what capacity this will be in, but a good bet would be that it’s through flashbacks, rather than in physical form. That would certainly fit with the feel of the show, as Jessica would undoubtedly still be suffering emotional trauma from everything Kilgrave put her through, and him coming back from the dead would be pretty lame and not a fit for the tone the show has established so far.

Whilst speaking to EW, showrunner Melissa Rosenberg showed she understands how huge a part of the show Kilgrave is, and the damage he left on Jessica – “He’s such a part of her construction and her dilemma. I think just having him come back and be that mirror again is really important.”

Ritter also shared that although Kilgrave is no fun, Tennant most definitely is – “Having David back on set was amazing. We had such a great run the first season, and it felt like a celebration, having him back. The content is maybe not much of a celebration [laughs], but having him be present and spending time with him on a personal level kind of felt like one”.

She also added “If season one was in her head and in her mind, then season two will be more in her heart. This season is more emotional. It’s still a psychological thriller, but it’s more of an emotional thriller this time.”

Jessica Jones returns to Netflix in 2018, and it sounds as though it’s going to be another emotional rollercoaster!
