One of the many things that was so great about the original Deadpool film was its perfectly executed marketing campaign. The guys behind it all totally got what Deadpool is all about, giving us plenty of laughs as we eagerly awaited the release of the hit film. It looks like this year’s sequel will be no different if the new poster is anything to go by.
In typical Deadpool fashion the poster makes a comedic reference to another movie. This time recreating a poster from the 1983 drama Flashdance. In the poster Deadpool is seen arching his back against a chair with bullets falling from the sky over his body, as opposed to water falling on actress Jennifer Beals in the Flashdance version.
Ryan Reynolds tweeted the poster along with the caption “Take your passion. And make it happen”. The image has gone down very well with fans with more than 23,000 retweets within the first hour after it was tweeted by Reynolds. The highly anticipated sequel to the 2016 smash was originally set for a June 1st release. However recently it was confirmed that it was pushed forward to May 16th meaning the wait is now 2 weeks less than we originally anticipated.

The poster fits in perfectly with the films irreverent marketing after the thanksgiving-themed good housekeeping poster in November last year shortly followed by the unique but hilarious Bob Ross teaser trailer.
The official ‘Deadpool 2’ trailer is expected to drop next week to accompany the release of Marvel’s Black Panther in theatres meaning we don’t have long to wait. This poster could well be preparation for the films campaign to kick in to another gear. Going by the first Deadpool film I think it is safe to assume we will see many more posters and parodies to wet our appetites ready for the big release in May.
At the moment there isn’t much that we know about the story to the sequel, however what we do know is that the film will be directed by John Wick co-director David Leitch after Tim Miller’s departure. The other big news of course was that Josh Brolin came in as fan-favourite comic character Cable. Further to this Zazie Beetz will play Domino, a mutant mercenary with luck powers. Deadpool is also reunited with Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, T.J Miller as Weasel, Stefan Kapicic as Colossus, Brianna Hildebrand as negasonic Teenage Warhead and Leslie Uggams as Blind Al.
