Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have released a new trailer for Rampage, starring Dwayne Johnson.
Rampage is inspired by the 1980’s video game of the same name, and reunites Johnson with San Andreas director, Brad Peyton. Johnson stars as a people-shy primatologist Davis Okoye, whose best friend is a remarkably intelligent silverback gorilla named George. Unfortunately, a pesky genetic experiment transforms the ape into a giant monster, sending him on a rampage across the nation, along with a 30-foot flying wolf and gigantic mutated ‘gator. In order to save the day, and his furry BFF, Davis throws himself into battle against the enhanced creatures and the government forces trying to contain them.
The first trailer for Rampage was pretty underwhelming and didn’t really give me a reason to want to see it, but this time around it does a much better job of selling itself. The personality of the movie really comes across, and it gives you a feel of what sort of tone to expect. Thankfully it seems as though it’s not taking itself too seriously and will keep the jokes coming as well as the action. Johnson has proven throughout his career that he’s just as comfortable and capable in humerous roles as he is throwing punches, so he should be in his element. All being well then we could have a pretty fun little blockbuster on our hands here. My only concern is that some of the CGI looked a little off at times. Hopefully on the big screen it’ll hold up.
Rampage also stars Naomie Harris, Malin Akerman, Jake Lacy, Joe Manganiello and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, as well as P.J. Byrne, Marley Shelton, Breanne Hill, Jack Quaid, and Matt Gerald. The film is released in theaters on 13th April. Check out the first trailer below!
